Farm Girl

I’m an Iowa farm girl, born & raised! Even though Kyle and I are raising our family in town I still want the farm life to be part of Adelyn’s (and baby #2’s) childhood! My Dad aka Grandpa still farms. Since its harvest season Adelyn and I went down for a ride in the combine with Grandpa one afternoon.

When we pulled into the field Grandpa was just headed the opposite way, so we had a bit to wait for him to make a round. I talked to Adelyn about the combine and how we were going for a ride. She acted excited, was jabbering away, and playing around in the front seat with me.

Once Grandpa made his way back towards us, we let the corn dust settle, and opened the car door to head to the combine. I set Adelyn down outside the car and as soon as her feet hit the dirt she was diving back for the car. She wasn’t sure what to think of the big, green combine! I picked her up and we walked to the combine as she clung to me. With Grandpa’s help we made it up the steps to the combine, but Adelyn was glued to my lap and didn’t say a word!

She ended up falling asleep after about 30 minutes and slept for about an hour, while my Dad and I caught up! It was fun to be back on the farm!

When Adelyn woke up she wasn’t near as scared of the combine. She started playing with the vents and Grandpa showed her how to honk the horn! She was also very interested in the CB’s that Grandpa kept talking into!IMG_3595

I think that will be her only combine ride for 2012 (pretty sure my Dad has all the crops harvested), but hopefully next year she won’t be as scared of it!

After our 2 1/2 ride with Grandpa, we went into Grandma’s house to eat supper. Cousin Hayden provided some good dinner entertainment!IMG_3607

IA’s Best Dam Tri

Sunday September 16th “Team B” {Kyle and our friends Brandon & Brittany} competed in their 2nd triathlon. This one was held just outside of Iowa City at the Coralville Reservoir. We all went to the Iowa Hawkeye football game on Saturday, stayed in IA City Saturday night, and got up bright & early for the triathlon on Sunday.

Adelyn and I dropped them off and went to get some breakfast while they got registered and set up.

Adelyn and I returned before they shut down the road and met up with the team!

Brittany was just getting warmed up for her portion of the race, swimming! And it was chilly that morning! {Brittany is the 2nd one from the left}

IMG_3438

Her heat was up! GO Britt!!!!

IMG_3444

Look at her go! I sure wish I could remember the temp of the water…just know it was COLD!

IMG_3459

Brittany finished with a great time {beating her time from the Twin Lakes Tri} and hustled up the beach to meet up with Kyle in the transition area. IMG_3471

Kyle greeted her with a “high 5” and switched the time chip.

IMG_3494

And he’s off! GO Kyle!!!!!!!!

IMG_3507

Adelyn was a great race cheerleader throughout the whole thing! While Daddy was riding his portion of the race we sat and ate some fruit with Brittany while Brandon warmed up for his portion of the race.

IMG_3568

Kyle did AMAZING on the bike portion of the race! It is one of the hilliest courses he’d ever done. {read: we have ant hills compared to the “mountains” he had to ride}

IMG_3529

It was a challenge, but he finished with a great time. We were so proud of him!!!

IMG_3537

He met Brandon in the transition area and he was off to finish the last leg of the race.

IMG_3541

Unfortunately we weren’t able to see Brandon on his portion of the race because it was an out & back. But we did get some good pictures of him finishing strong!

IMG_3549

All three of their times combined put them in 5th place {out of 17 teams}!! So proud of them. This was a much bigger race with a lot more competition and they did awesome!!

IA vs UNI

Saturday September 15th was Iowa’s 3rd game of the year. Iowa hosted an in state rival, UNI. Adelyn joined us for the weekend. It was her first trip to Iowa City! We didn’t take her to the game though, but we made sure she got the tailgate and pre-game experience!

Aunt Mel & Uncle Steve came from Chicago for the game. And our friends Brandon & Brittany {along with their 2 little boys, Brody & Brayden} also came. Brandon joined Kyle, Steve, & Mel for the game while Britt & I hung out back at the hotel with the kids. IMG_3390

Back to tailgating…

IMG_3404

Adelyn loved running around, eating yummy snacks, and being a social little butterfly! Gotta love action shots…pre “crash”!

IMG_3405

She was a tough girl though and jumped right back up!

IMG_3406

Adelyn loved Aunt Mel’s bracelets! Pretty!

IMG_3411

We walked around to do some shopping and see the team walk in the stadium. We just happened to run into the cheerleaders and I asked if they’d take a picture with our baby!! Adelyn wasn’t sure what to think!

Everyone headed to the game and Adelyn & I headed to the hotel to meet up with Brittany and her boys. We tried out the swimming pool, but it was a bit cold. Despite the cold Adelyn & Brody didn’t seem to mind. After our swim we watched the rest of the game from the hotel room and headed back towards the stadium to pick them up & say our good byes to Aunt Mel & Uncle Steve.

I think it was a good experience for Adelyn! One day she’ll get to go to a game, but that will be a few years down the road. Kids tickets cost the same as an adult, no child discount. Boo! But we are looking forward to a few years down the road when its our family tradition to spend Saturday’s in the fall in Iowa city cheering on the Hawkeyes!

Hawkeye Game at the Bush’s

The first Hawkeye game this season was an away game and it just so happened they were airing it on a station we don’t get with our cable package. Our friends, Brandon & Brittany, were so kind to invite us over for the afternoon to watch the game!

Brandon & Brittany have 2 little boys. Brody is going on 2 (just about 6 months older than Adelyn) and Brayden was born late May this year. Brody and Adelyn are good little buddies, so they didn’t mind an afternoon play date!IMG_3290

They even convinced Kyle to read them a book (during half time of course)!

IMG_3292

The seriousness in this picture makes me laugh!

IMG_3296

We told Brody to put his arm around Adelyn…she wasn’t sure what to think of that!

IMG_3298

We all had a fun afternoon! The game was a nail biter, but thankfully the Hawks pulled out a win! And these two friends had a good time! Adelyn calls Brody “Bro Bro” and Brody calls Adelyn “Adwin”! Adorable!!

22 weeks

22 weeks, 3 days 11.4.12

How Far Along: 22 weeks, 3 days  {11.4.12}

Size of baby: Baby Bangert #2 is the length of a spaghetti squash

Heartbeat: 150bpm at 21 week appointment

Total Weight Gain/Loss: **still need to weigh this week**

Maternity Clothes: All maternity pants & jeans and a few tops. I’m still squeezing into a few of my regular shirts while I can!

Gender Predictions: Kyle was right, it’s a boy!

Movement: He is really starting to be a busy boy, especially in the evenings! My sister, Stef, even got to feel him move while she was visiting this week!

Sleep: I’ve finally figured out that I can *almost* sleep all night if I quit drinking water later in the evening. I say almost because my bladder is like my 5am alarm clock, despite my actual alarm being set for 5:45am!

What I miss: When everything in my closet used to fit me and sleeping on my back.

Cravings: Carbs! Its terrible!

Symptoms: The tiredness is still hanging around. I’m also starting to notice my skin isn’t so clear these days. I can’t complain much though, its nothing like it was when I was pregnant with Adelyn.

Best Moment this week: My sister, Stef, and her daughter, Lily, visiting earlier in the week and then my cousin, Elizabeth, and her family came down from Minnesota over the weekend.

17 weeks

17 weeks, 3 days 9.30.12

Adelyn wanted to join Mama again for the weekly picture!

How Far Along: 17 weeks, 3 days  {9.30.12}

Size of baby: Baby Bangert #2 is the size of a onion

Heartbeat: 140bpm at 16 week appointment

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +11lbs

Maternity Clothes: For the most part I’m wearing maternity pants.  I went through my tote of maternity clothes today to add a few more things to my closet that fit a little better!

Gender Predictions: Kyle is 100% sure we’re having a boy, like I’ve said in previous weeks, because my pregnancy has been different it makes me wonder if it’s a boy, but I know that isn’t necessarily an indicator. We find out in just 2 weeks!

Movement: Just a few flutters every now & then, nothing too consistent.

Sleep: I’m sleeping great…once I get my pillows situated! And I’m still hitting the hay fairly early! Last night I almost made it to 10pm and that doesn’t happen very often these days!

What I miss: When everything in my closet used to fit me! But now that I added my maternity clothes to my closet, that shouldn’t be a problem anymore! And sleeping on my back.

Cravings: candy corn & peanuts! I love sweet & salty. I satisfied that craving when we tailgated on Saturday at the Iowa game! Yum!

Symptoms: The tiredness is still hanging around. I’m also starting to notice my skin isn’t so clear these days. I can’t complain much though, its nothing like it was when I was pregnant with Adelyn.

Best Moment this week: Knowing that in 2 weeks we’ll know whether Adelyn is getting a baby brother or sister! We had a fairly “normal” week, although I do have to say it was nice to have the Hawkeyes win on Saturday!
