First B-Day Party: Guests

Instead of having a guest book we had a photo booth with a chalk board for guests to write a message or sign their name. My brother-in-law Geoff was so kind to be our photographer for the day! The background was inspired by this pinterest idea.

First off, the guest of honor, Adelyn, and her parents!

First B-Day Party: Details

We celebrated Adelyn’s 1st birthday on Saturday the 16th, 1 year after my original due date! It was a wonderful day filled with good food, family, friends, and fun! I have almost 500 pictures so I’m going to split them up into a few different posts, so make sure to scroll through the blog to see each one!

I had a vision in my head of what I wanted her invites to look like. I sent a bunch of pictures & directions to Kyle’s sister, Laura, and she came up with just what I wanted! Thanks Aunt Laura! We used pictures from her 9 month photo session for the invite. I printed them at vistaprint.com when they were have a 50% sale. A good friend made her owl hat, her shirt is sheshemade.com, and I made the tutu.

A good friend made her owl hat (used in the pictures), her bow she wore at the party is from this etsy shop, her shirt is sheshemade.com, and I made the tutu.

We decided to have her party at our home, in the garage & the patio. It turned out to be a beautiful day {maybe a little hot}!

_DSC0711

I got the fabric pennant banner on clearance for a $1 at Target.

Kyle blew up all the balloons with the air compressor and we strung them on fishing line and hung them in between the house & garage. Unfortunately the popped randomly all throughout the party.

I felt like I had a huge undertaking to turn our garage into a fun, girly 1st birthday. But overall, I’m really happy with how everything turned out!

_DSC0703

Her cake was from our favorite local bakery, Laritas. I made the tutu from left over tulle from her tutu.

I made the ribbon wreath a while back for her bedroom door and it worked perfect for added party décor. I printed her monthly pictures and strung them on ribbon to display as well.

_DSC0782

I displayed her invite in a frame, along with a few canvases that we have around the house.

The desert table! I had so much fun with this! I made the tissue poms and the chevron fabric is from this etsy shop.

_DSC0699

Her smash cake & the cookies are also Laritas, I made the dipped pretzel rods & marshmallows. The pink sixlets are from Hobby Lobby, I got the pink gum balls on amazon, the pink & white M&Ms are from Valentines day clearance (we did the same thing for our wedding 7 years ago…and yes they last that long!), and the pink gummy bears & laffy taffy are from candywarehouse.com. The glassware and serving dishes are all either mine or my sister, Mindi’s.

I use this Pinterest idea for the silverware, napkins were $1 Target clearance, the owl print is from zulily.com and I just had my friend write in her name, and the plates, silverware, table cloths & skirts are all from a local party store.

I displayed another canvas above the food table along with happy birthday banner I made. Her canvases are from easycanvasprints.com. Like them on facebook and you get 50% off canvases & free shipping.

We served sliders, hot dogs, brats, baked beans, pasta salad, potato chips, and frozen fruit cups. For drinks we had an assortment of pop, juice boxes, and water.

I’m sure I missed something! If you see something you’re curious about, just ask! And just in case you missed it, here are the other party posts:

Kyle’s Birthday Present

I began planning Kyle’s gift months ahead of his birthday this year. I contacted a local business in town, showed him a picture of what I wanted, and made sure we had enough time to find a rock and get the inscription done.

For years Kyle has wanted this big rock, with the saying “Break The Rock” on it. They sell smaller ones, but he always said he wanted a BIG one. At first I didn’t understand what the meaning was and I’m sure you’re wondering what does “Break The Rock” mean! Well let me tell you!

IMG_2021

There is a similar one in the University of Iowa strength and conditioning facility. The underlying theme is that through hard work and sacrifice, a Hawkeye student-athlete can chip away at any obstacle and accomplish goals. Love it!

Thankfully everything fell into to place and my Dad delivered his gift 2 days before Kyle’s birthday! This is what Kyle saw coming down the road and said “You didn’t, did you?!?!” The 2nd thing you said “How much did it cost?” (this is why he hadn’t got one, because to do something custom like this would be very expensive, but I got a good deal)

IMG_2012

He was SO excited, like a kid at Christmas! We had a pull a bush {that we weren’t fond of} before it could be perfectly placed in our yard.

IMG_2014

So thankful for my Dad, his willingness to help, and his equipment to move this 2000+lb rock!

IMG_2013

They set it down out of the bucket, but it wasn’t facing the right direction…

IMG_2015

So with some carefully maneuvering we got it to the perfect angle!

And it’s easy to see that the birthday boy approves!

New Pool

Over Memorial Day weekend we decided to get a pool for Adelyn! And as you can see, she was pretty excited about it!

IMG_2066

I was pretty excited to finally put her in one of her 3 swimsuits I got her for the summer! And I don’t think this one will make it all summer…I’ve got a long little girl!

IMG_2069

I know this picture is blurry, but I love the smile on her face with her tongue out!

IMG_2072

We got her swimsuit at www.sheshemade.com!

IMG_2079

Saturday was a perfect pool day, sunny and 85 degrees! The pool we got was even big enough to fit me and Kyle, we had a fun afternoon splashing around in our new pool! I’m sure it was a funny sight to see 2 grown adults in this small plastic pool, but hey it’s one of the things you do once you have a baby and you don’t care what people think!

IMG_2080

I know there will be many more afternoons spent in the pool this summer!

Adelyn’s 1st Ice Cream Cone

I mentioned in the Mother’s Day post that I had more on our stop at the Dairette. I got a strawberry cone and shared it with Adelyn off of a spoon. Well I decided once the top part of the cone was gone I’d let her have a go at it.

“Do I really get it hold it Mama?”

IMG_1970

“I’m going to feel this first before I eat it”

IMG_1969

So proud of herself!

IMG_1973

Going in for a taste…

IMG_1975

…thinking about it…

IMG_1976

“Mom I got something on my fingers”

IMG_1977

“I’ll lick it off”

IMG_1979

“What? Do I have something on my face?”

IMG_1980

Verdict: She loved it!

IMG_1982

“Thanks Mama!”

IMG_1983

“I’ll have another bite!”
