Adelyn’s Nine Months Old!

I can hardly type that my baby girl is already 9 months old! Less than 3 months, she’ll be a year. Just doesn’t seem possible! This little girl has forever changed our lives and we couldn’t be happier!

We purchased a new toy for Adelyn this month, a music table. She loves it ‘cause she can stand up like a big girl and play! She also loves to sit by her bookshelf and pull all the books off the shelf and look through them! 2

We took her to the park for the first time this month and she loved it! The slide was her favorite. She’s wanting to sit up like a big girl when she goes down though and she’s not quite ready for that! But she sure does try for all she can to sit up!

Right when Adelyn turned 9 months old she began “regular” crawling the majority of the time! She will still army crawl from time to time. It’s so fun to put her on the floor and let her just explore, she’s so curious about everything. Adelyn clapped for the first time this month! I sing the praise song “Clap your hands all you people…” to her all the time and slowly she’s starting to get it! So incredibly cute! She can also high 5! IMG_1469

For some reason she has come to hate her changing table. Not only is she uber wiggly, but she also just cries and cries when you put her on it. I’m not sure why or what it is. But diaper changes these days have been a dual effort. One person to change her and another to keep her entertained. I’m hoping she grows out of this phase!

Adelyn got her 5th tooth this month. She got her top one to the left of her top 2. (not sure what the “official” name is) It’s so hard to get a peek at her top teeth we hardly knew it popped through, but she did get sick {again} the end of January and we were home with her for almost a week, so I’m sure that was a sign…or just all those germs at daycare. IMG_1473

Since getting her teeth she has really turned into quite the biter. When we pick her up she gets all excited and nuzzles into our shoulder and bites on that muscle/tendon that sticks out {unfortunately it fits perfectly in her mouth}. Ouch! I’m really hoping this is just ‘cause she is teething and not a sign that she’s going to be a biter when she’s older. We’ve had to “discipline” her when she bites. Not fun for her or us! I’ve cried a few times when I have to do it. She just sticks out that bottom lip real far and just lets out this big, sad cry. Breaks my heart, but I know it’s for the best. No one said parenting would be easy I guess!IMG_1488

Adelyn is doing SO well with finger foods. In addition to the foods I’ve mentioned in previous months we’ve tried peas, string cheese, cauliflower, and oranges. Usually she has 3 “meals” a day and 2 snacks. She LOVES oranges! Grandma & Grandpa Greene brought us back a HUGE bag from Texas and Adelyn has been enjoying those this month!

About a week before she was 9 months she was less interested in her bottles at daycare. She nurses in the morning and at night before bed and then had 2 bottles of breast milk at daycare. Up until now those bottles were 6-7 ounces. Last week she was only eating 3-4 ounces. So instead of having 2 small bottles at daycare we cut it down to one big one. She didn’t even skip a beat. On the weekends and over spring break whens she is home with us, she does so well nursing 3 times a day, usually at 6am, noon, and 7pm. 1

Adelyn is still in size 3 diapers and wears 6-9mo and 6-12mo clothes. She is just SO fun these days and we couldn’t feel any more blessed to have such a good baby.

*NINE MONTH STATS*
weight – 18lbs 9oz
length – 28 3/4 in
eating – 100% nursing or breastmilk from a bottle, cereal, & solids
clothes - 6-9 mo and 6-12 mo
diapers - size 3

Hy-Vee 5K

I ran my first 5k in 18 months on Saturday…the first one post baby! It was a challenge, but I finished and I’m proud of what I did.

The weather was much different than expected. A day or so ago the forecast said it was supposed to be sunny and 73 degrees…but I woke up this morning to fog, chilly, and 48 degrees! Woa!

I didn’t let that stop me though! Threw on my sneakers and headed the 3-4 miles to the race location…I love hometown races! Kyle and Adelyn were in tow as well, official race cheerleaders!IMG_1415

The race was held at a park just outside of the town where I live, thankfully they had REAL bathrooms! I took advantage of that, got a few good luck kisses from my race cheerleaders and headed for the start line, nerves and all.

The race started at 9:30am sharp. I was a little too close to the front and started out quick. At one point I looked down at my Garmin and it said I was pacing at 7:45…not my 10 minute normal. Somewhere around that same time I spotted my race cheerleaders…only 1/4 mile into the race. This is where I backed off a little and got to a more comfortable pace!IMG_1416

To say that this race was a challenge is no joke! Little did I know that this park not too far from my house was filled with HILLY trails! Yep my first non flat race! Here’s a side note, I live in Iowa…the FLAT LANDS, I never run hills!

Ok, back to the race recap…the first hills weren’t too bad, but later in the race it did start to wear on me. I ended up finishing the race with a walk/run routine, which I was was A-ok with. I felt like the slog (SLow-jOG) I was doing up hill wasn’t anymore productive than a power walk.

My ALL TIME favorite race cheerleaders were waiting for me at mile 3. It was so refreshing to see Kyle and Adelyn and it gave me the “umph” I needed to finish that last 0.10 miles strong!IMG_1419

I blew them kisses and was off to finish my first 5k since having a baby! At the end of the race route you had to run right past the finish line and do this little loop…such a tease!IMG_1421

I did it, finished my 5th 5k, 1st one post-baby!!!! I don’t have an official time yet, but my Garmin said 37:02. And I’m proud of that!IMG_1422

I grabbed a banana and 1/2 bagel and met up with this sweet girl who was waiting for me in the warm car! (it was too cold for her & daddy to be outside too long)IMG_1431

This was the first year this race was put on and they did an exceptional job! I’ve ran both big and small races and you never would have known that this was the first go-around. First class race! Great volunteers, well marked course, and awesome goodies!

I’m proud of what I accomplished today, it wasn’t easy, but I did it! I’m looking forward to more races this year! Winking smile IMG_1426

(Don’t worry we didn’t let her drive home!)

Fun, New Things!

While in Omaha the end of February I picked up Adelyn’s first “anywhere” chair from Pottery Barn Kids. She LOVES it! I plan to take it somewhere here in town to get her name embroidered in it.IMG_1193

Oh and this was the first time I’d put her hair in a “pony tail”. She surprisingly left it alone! This may have to be the new way she’s wears bows because lately she is a pro at pulling her headband/bows off!IMG_1198

My blog friend, Katy, tweeted about finding a music table at a garage sale for her little guy. It isn’t quite garage sale season here in Iowa yet, but I knew just where to look! I checked out Craigslist before going to Omaha to find a music table for Adelyn and was successful!IMG_1189

I ended up finding one for $10, these things retail at $45+, so I considered it a success {plus it’s pink]! And as you can see she loves it!IMG_1191

Happy St Patrick’s Day

Despite Kyle and I being a very small percentage Irish I couldn’t help but dress our little girl up for the holiday! Come on who wouldn’t want to kiss this sweet little face!IMG_1305

And wouldn’t you know that the headband wouldn’t last very long!

IMG_1309

And where do you think it ended up after pulling it off her head?

Cousins Weekend

The last weekend in February Adelyn, cousin Hayden, Aunt Wendi, and I made the trip to Omaha to see cousin Lily (and her parents!). We wanted to get in some Lily time. I know all too well how quick it goes! She was already going on 7 weeks old when we were there!cousins

I always enjoy our time in Omaha. Stef & Geoff have a great house for company and they are always great hosts! We did a little shopping and there was also a neighborhood baby shower for Lily.Lily Weeks 6 & 7 034

My Dad and Grandma also came out for the weekend. I love these pictures of my Dad with the baby girls! And I love how Lily & Adelyn are just checking each other out in the 1st one!IMG_1176IMG_1179

Unfortunately Adelyn got sick while we were there. Hayden & Wendi weren’t feeling well either. We ended up coming home early Sunday morning. Sadly poor little Lily got sick too. Sick babies are NO FUN! Thankfully everyone is feeling well now!

First Trip to the Park

We have been having unseasonal highs here in Iowa this week. So we took advantage of those warm temps and took Adelyn to the park after work on Monday. Needles to say, she LOVED it! See for yourself in the pictures we captured.

This was her first trip down the big slide. We put her on her back and Daddy let her slide down to Mommy at the bottom. She giggled the whole way day. It was so precious!IMG_1205

Daddy went to shoot some hoops, so Mommy & Adelyn went to play in the tunnel. As you can tell, she loved that too! She liked to smack the tunnel and hear the noise it made. IMG_1207

Daddy couldn’t resist playing with his girls!IMG_1208

IMG_1219

Time for the BIG slide! Daddy joined her for this one though!IMG_1221

IMG_1222

Unfortunately the baby swings at the park near our house were broken, so she had to swing with Daddy & Mommy. I don’t think she minded though!IMG_1230

IMG_1239

And one last trip down the slide before heading home for bath time!IMG_1243

Check out the video of Adelyn giggling down the slide! LOVE it!
