Show Us Your Life Friday – Halloween Costumes

KellyShowUsKelly over at Kelly’s Korner hosts every Friday and today, of course, is Halloween costumes!

I don’t have a picture of me in my costume yet, so you’ll just have to wait! But I will definately post pictures on Sunday! But I did get one of Abby in her costume! She was a bumble bee last year too and I love it on her, but she ended up eating it! So I picked this one up at Target on clearance! Hopefully she doesn’t eat it this year and she can wear it again! Play Date for Abby!

Monday after work my friend (and former co-worker), Jill stopped over to say “hi”! She has a 10 month old son Luke who she knew would love Abby! Luke had a dr appointment in town and they came over afterwards! So it worked out perfect.

It was fun to see Abby with a baby. He wanted to play with her so bad, but still isn’t quite quick enough to keep up. Abby got excited and started running around like a little wild puppy. But I think she really liked Luke! I tried to get a few pictures, but it was hard, they were both moving so fast!!

Little Luke is quite a fast crawler! In fact, he even won a trophy at the fair for being the fastest crawler! He is taking just a few steps, but not quite perfected yet! DSC04924

Just love those chubby little cheeks!!

I think they’re friends!DSC04933

Sometimes Abby got running around a little too much and I think it scared Luke!DSC04935

It was fun to catch up with Jill, see Luke & how much he’s grown & changed since I last saw him, and have him and Abby play together! Maybe now Abby will be a little more adjusted when we (someday!) bring home a little one! :)

Out with the old…

In with the NEW!!!DSC04923
Kyle and I stopped at Target for a few things after church and of course I had to check out the clearance end caps. (like I always do on “Target runs”!) And I found a new vacuum! About 2 weeks ago Kyle mentioned it was something we needed to start looking for. We have had our old since before we were married and it was a cheap $60 one from Wal-Mart.  How nice, we didn’t even have to look for it…it practically found us! :)DSC04908
And it works like a charm! I tested it out right away when we got home. It has all kinds of great specs too!
DSC04909

  • It has multi cyclonic technology that delivers non stop suction for superior cleaning.
  • AireTight HEPA filtration system that traps and seals in all pollen, mold spores, and dust mites to purify the air while you vacuum.
  • It’s the only vacuum that has built in Microban Antimicrobial product protection to fight the growth of odor causing bacteria, mold, and mildew in the vacuum.
I’m pretty pumped about it!!

think we are going to donate our old vacuum to “Share What you Wear”. It still working condition, so we figure someone could maybe get some use out of it.
Here is some info about the event, coming up VERY soon! Hard to believe October is almost over!
Share What You Wear has been an annual event at Iowa Central since 2004. Last year, the event reached out to nearly 1,000 individuals in need from Fort Dodge and the surrounding area. Participants had the opportunity to select clothing, shoes, coats, toys and household items for themselves and as gifts to be given to loved ones at no cost to them. It is Christmas for some of the people that come. Let me know if you would like to donate to the event. It is definitely a great cause.

Our 1st Half Marathon

Sunday, October 18th Kyle and I ran our first half marathon together in Des Moines. We spent the night in Des Moines Saturday night, had a pasta supper, and got up early to gear up for the 8am start!

I think I had butterflies in my stomach for about 3 days before the race, but the morning of I was just excited, no nervous-ness. So that was good. We planned to run together and that is just what we did. I love that it was our first half marathon and that we ran it together! Just to note, Kyle could finish WAY faster than me, but he was kind enough to stay with his slow wife!

Pre-race. We had just met up with Dad. Notice our layers & gloves! It was 39 degrees!DSC04875

And Angie just happened to walk by!! Out of all the people we run into each other…how cool!! (I work with Angie at Iowa Central)DSC04878

DSC048968am sharp the gun went off for the start of the race! Now keep in mind there about 8000 people so we really didn’t start running until about 3 minutes after the gun went off. DSC04879

See me? I was so happy because Stef, Geoff, &  Mindi made it to see us off just in time!DSC06963

High-five’s from Stef!!DSC06965

They found Dad!DSC06970

The race started at Nollen Plaza in downtown Des Moines with a view of the capitol!DSC06972

We were rounding mile 2 and I got pretty excited ‘cause I saw my family…cheering us on!! DSC06974

Miles 2-7ish were a total breeze. I didn’t want to think about how easy it seemed though because I knew we weren’t even half done yet. And the majority of those miles were in Waterworks Park. We each grabbed a water on the go at 2 different water stations and kept up a great pace. And I kept wondering if we would see my family…AKA “THE BEST RACE CHEERLEADERS EVER”!!!!!

And we did!! Right around mile 6ish! Look at the shadows…that is Mindi and Stef singing their hearts out with a super cool personalized song cheering us on!! Seeing them really kept me going & pumped!DSC04882

I don’t remember what mile this was…but you can tell we were happy to see them once again!!DSC06983DSC04884

Miles 9…we’re well over half way & still feeling great! Kyle and I high-fived the same number of times as what mile we were on all through the race. Ex. mile 9 = 9 high-fives!DSC06988

Stef & Mindi joined us at mile 9 for short time! Mindi was pretty excited shouting “I’m running a 1/2 marathon!!!!”  Mindi’s in the gray hat & Stef is in the Navy coat!DSC06989

I know I’ve said it a lot, but I cannot put into words what it meant to have them there ALL ALONG THE RACE ROUTE supporting & cheering us on the whole time!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Something cool Stef & Mindi found out is that Rebecca from the current season of the Biggest Loser was running the 1/2 marathon too! So they made friends with her camera man! I guess his name was Brandon!DSC06991

Here comes Rebecca…she has lost over 100 lbs and looks great! Make sure to watch her on the Biggest Loser!

DSC06993

DSC06994She kicked up her heels when my sisters cheered for her! :)

This was the last time we saw Dad, Geoff, Stef, & Mindi. And I wasn’t feeling near as good…we had taken a water/walk break about 1/2 mile earlier and my legs got tight and heavy really fast. I now know it’s best just to drink and run. Walk breaks are NOT good! DSC06997

The last 2 1/2 – 3 miles were a mental challenge for me. My family mentioned when they saw us at mile 11 “Kyle are you even breaking a sweat?” I honestly don’t think he was! He is so strong, but I’m so happy that he stayed with me for our first race!

We finally made it, rounded the last turn, and could see the finish line about 1/3 mile ahead of us and something inside me came out and I was at “all out dead spring”! And of course Kyle was right there with me!!!DSC07002  DSC07001

Kyle spotted Stef and had to get 1 more high five!!DSC07004

We crossed the finish line right over 2 1/2 hours and our goal was just that…so I was happy!! We got metals and my family was right there to congratulate us!!!DSC07013

I was a tad wore out!! :pDSC04892

Kyle, me, and our cheering squad!! I told them, “You guys took so many of our pictures, I wish I could have gotten some of you because you were so entertaining!” Once again, thank you so much for coming to support us!! It really meant a lot!!DSC07026

Rebecca from the Biggest Loser!!! How cool that we got to meet her…we even high fived!! :)DSC07030

We did it! Now Kyle is contemplating doing a full marathon and I think I am going to stick to the 1/2 marathons and just try to beat my previous timeDSC04899

Iowa Hawkeyes vs Michigan Wolverines

This was a night game this week, it was homecoming! Kyle had to work a little bit in the morning so we decided not to tailgate and just take our time getting to Iowa City and take care of a few things we’ve wanted to do a lot of other weekends, but just didn’t take the time. We stopped at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall and then headed on to Iowa City to the Coralville Mall, Best Buy, Hawk Shop, and had a nice early supper at HuHot!!! It was a nice afternoon together. We actually ended up taking up too much time and had to park a LONG ways away from Kinnick! It was COLD too!! But we bundled up and stayed fairly warm!

We ended up getting to the stadium with a little less than an hour to spare, great timing! And we actually ran in our friends Sara and Vahn…out of 100,000+ people…crazy!!

Alumni marching band! DSC04847

Chuck Long was the honorary captain! He played under Hayden Fry!DSC04849
