Adelyn Lately

I just wanted to give a few updates on our “big sister” from the past few weeks!
To say she has transitioned into the big sister role is an understatement. Its almost as if she hasn’t missed a beat! She loves her baby brother, takes him his blankie, burp rag, or talks to him when he cries. I’m almost scared to type this, but she hasn’t shown any jealousy towards him at all! I’m so proud of our sweet girl!
IMG_5058
Of course its not all peaches & cream! She’s an average toddler who wants to do everything herself and has her share of fits. She’s stretched my patience and my heart at the same time these days!
The girl LOVES chapstick. We always caught her stealing it off our night stand or trying to crawl up to get it off the table. I decided to get one of her own to have in her Easter basket and she loves it! We’re still working on the “don’t eat it” part! ha!
IMG_4638IMG_4639IMG_4640
A few weekends ago Adelyn started showing interest in wearing our shoes. In the past she would say “mommy’s shoes” and bring them to me. Now she’s decided she wants to wear them! Silly girl!
IMG_4850IMG_4854
I wasn’t quick enough with the camera. Just before I took this picture Adelyn rushed to Avery’s side when he was crying, started patting his back, and said {in her sweet little voice} “it ok avery”! be still my heart! love my littles so much!
IMG_5055
After church on Sunday while Avery was napping we watched Bee Movie with Adelyn. She insisted on sitting in her own chair, rather than snuggling with Mommy or Daddy. A little into the movie I said something to Kyle that Adelyn must be asleep ‘cause she wasn’t wiggling around or making any noises. Come to find out, Mama was right! We sure did get a good laugh at this moment!

Adelyn: 22 Months

IMG_5074-001
Cannot believe our little girl will be 2 in less than 2 months! And I couldn’t help but include a few outtakes from our 22 month photo shoot! The only way we got her too cooperate for the picture above was to bribe her with 2 m&m’s! The girl loves her chocolate!

Avery: 1 Month

Dear Avery,
April 7th you turned 1 month! Its hard to believe we’ve been a family of four for 1 month already! You have challenged us and filled our hearts with love even more than we could have imagined!IMG_4833-001
When you were first born you latched right away! Since then we have had a few bumps in the road with nursing. I think it is all due to your poor tummy. I can feel the gas bubbles in your tummy as I try to burp you. We would have a feeding where you would eat on one side and then I’d switch you to the other and you’d just cry & cry like I was torturing you. But each week it has gotten better & better and I’m hoping it will continue to go in that direction. On average you will nurse every 2-3 hours during the day.
Since your tummy is gurgle-ly you spit up quite a bit, almost guaranteed you will spit up during each feeding. It also takes some good patting and time to get you to burp. I can tell you are uncomfortable and just need to burp, but boy sometimes we sure have to work to get that gas bubble out. Poor little boy!
IMG_4829
As far as the sleep department, I’d say you get a C-! I know there are babies that are worse, but your big sister is proof that there is better too! On average during your first month you would sleep 4-5 hour stretches at night. You did have a few nights thrown in there that you were up 3 times, but the majority of the time you were only up twice. During weeks 3 & 4 we got into a routine of swaddling you nice & tight and putting you down in your crib after your 7:30pm feeding. You’d sleep till midnight or 1am and then you would be up again around 4am. My hope is that we can get that 4am feeding pushed back to 5:30-6am-ish over these next few weeks. Your longest stretch at night was about 5 1/2 hours! At first it was hard to get up at night and I felt like a zombie when I’d get up with you. Now I have learned to enjoy our time at night together knowing you are going to grow up all too fast! And this is only for a season!
One thing I have in your room, that we didn’t have for your big sister, is white noise. We downloaded a few to our itunes and put one of our ipods in your room on a docking station and you seem to like it. Its nice to know that the white noise drowns out any noise in the house…AKA your big sister!
IMG_4841
You had your first bottle this month. It was after a rough nursing session. I didn’t know what to do since you wouldn’t nurse. I tried a bottle and you took it right away. After that bottle I was scared you wouldn’t nurse again, but you did and have went back & forth a few other times! So thankful!
I love all your sweet little sounds you make! I need to be quicker with the video camera so I can capture those coo’s, little cries, etc. And you sure make us giggle with your snorting, sometimes its while you eat or other times its when you’re burping, lil piggy!
Speaking of noises, you toot quite often! Pretty sure every time you do, you also leave a little surprise in your diaper for us! Because of this you got a terrible diaper rash, I mean open sores terrible. I felt awful for you. We tried 3-4 different creams, wipes, diapers, etc. Nothing seemed to work. What finally worked is Aquafor and corn starch…within 1-2 days it was completely cleared up!
Unfortunately you aren’t very “regular” though. When we brought you home from the hospital you didn’t go for 3 days and were close to getting a suppository. Thankfully you ended up going #2 and we didn’t have to do that! I think you knew what was coming and didn’t want any part of that! I have learned now that your “regular” is about every other day.
IMG_4832
You are a pretty good napper! After you eat you are usually up for about 30-45 min and then you go down for a nap. I try to get at least 1-2 naps in your crib/day. Just like at night, I swaddle you and put you in your crib and you will nap for 1 1/2-2 hours until your next feeding. Your big sister didn’t nap much in her crib when we were home on maternity leave, therefore she wasn’t a good napper in her crib at daycare. I learned from that and hoping you will nap well once you go to daycare. We have had our share of times where you nap on my chest, I cannot resist those sweet snuggle times with you! You also like to nap on your tummy, so sometimes I keep you in the living room with me and let you nap on your tummy.
Another new item we have for you is a video monitor. I cannot believe we didn’t get one for your big sister! I love being able to not only hear you, but see you as well! I can zoom in and get a close up and we can even push a button and talk to you through the monitor!
IMG_4835
You like your bouncy seat, but aren’t too sure of the swing yet. I will you put in the swing sometimes and just turn on the the music & mobile. You seem to not like the swing when it is actually swinging. We also got your play mat out this month and you like to look around at that too! I’ve only tried the baby carrier a few times and you’d be content for 10 minutes or so, but not much longer.
You do fairly well at bath time, unless its close to feeding time! Closer to your 1 month mark we started putting your baby bath tub in the big tub when Adelyn is taking her bath to get both baths done at once! You seem to be entertained with big sister close by! Its not until we take you out of the tub that you are completely unhappy!
IMG_4834
With your big sister we stayed in the majority of her first month of life, but we’ve gotten out & about a lot with you. You went to church for the first time this month on Easter Sunday and once a week later for a funeral (both times you slept the whole time), we also went to Grandma Cindy’s church one Sunday, we took a 1 hour road trip to a family Easter, we’ve been to Grandma & Grandpa Greene’s house a few times, Great Grandma DeWall’s house once, lots of Target trips, quite a few doctor visits, we visited Mommy & Daddy’s work, lunch dates, 1 trip to the mall, a few walks to the park, and mostly it’s been going to pick up your big sister from daycare.
You aren’t happy when we put you in your car seat, but once we pick it up and either swing it or get you in the car you are content and fall asleep quickly. Your big sister loves sitting next to you in the car too!
IMG_4826-001
When we were in the hospital the nurses tried putting you in newborn diapers, but we knew all too well you needed those size 1’s! And I think you wore 2 outfits that were newborn and the rest of your clothes have been 0-3 month. You are just too long to fit in those newborn clothes!
Sweet Avery, your Daddy, big sister, and I all love you so much. We have loved having you in our family this past month and are excited to watch you grow!
Love, Mommy

Adelyn Singing

Adelyn has been singing {the majority!} of her ABCs for a few months now, but I just had to get it on video. She also likes to sing Twinkle, Twinkle and Jesus Loves Me! Love hearing that sweet little voice!

Happy Easter

Easter Sunday was our first Sunday at church with Avery! Kyle had to usher at church, which means he has to be there at 8am, so we took pictures after service!

IMG_4717

Avery did great at church and slept through the whole service! When we got home we did Easter baskets. Look at Adelyn’s excitement! Love that face!

IMG_4716

She was pretty excited to go through her basket! I had fun filling her basket. I didn’t want to go overboard because really the girl doesn’t need a thing! I went practical and got her a few things like some more forks, plates, hair clips, and then some fun things too!

IMG_4722

I thought she’d go for the chap stick first (she LOVES to play with Mommy’s!), but nope first thing she pulled out (from the back of the basket) was the forks! Silly girl!

IMG_4719IMG_4724

And Avery got a few things in his basket too! But he wasn’t too interested! Ha!

IMG_4725

Love my two babies SO much, especially all dressed up! So blessed!

IMG_4731

Once again I went practical for their outfits for Easter. Adelyn’s dress was a find from Aunt Mel (thank you!). We just had to get her some shoes, the girl’s feet have been growing like crazy and she didn’t have any white dress shoes that fit. Avery’s Baby Gap outfit was only $5 for all three pieces on a local buy/sell facebook group, it didn’t even look worn! Score!

We decided to go to Kyle’s Aunt & Uncle’s house for Easter dinner. This was Avery’s first road trip (it’s about an hour away). He did well on the way there, but fussed on the way home.

We had a great weekend celebrating our risen Savior. We celebrated Easter with my family the following weekend. Another post to come!

Easter Egg Hunt

Our church hosted a pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt the weekend of Easter. To prepare we had Adelyn practice finding eggs around the house! She quickly got the concept!

This was our first outing with all four of us and it was quite interesting getting out of the house on time, but we made it!

IMG_0815

Before Avery was born I ordered their first matching brother/sister shirts! Unfortunately we hadn’t chose Avery’s name yet, so his shirt wasn’t personalized, but my “peeps” are still looking cute in their SheSheMade shirts!

IMG_4705

It rained Saturday morning and was quite muddy so our church had to move the egg hunt inside. They had the 2 & under kids find their eggs & candy in the nursery. It was quite crowded and Adelyn was shy, but I think the kids had fun and Adelyn found a few eggs!

IMG_4683

IMG_4688IMG_4691

I think the busy morning wore out our sweet girl! But she didn’t stay asleep long because Grandma was at our house!

IMG_4694

My Mom came to the church to watch Adelyn do her first hunt, but since it was inside & a little crowded, she came over to play! Grandma & her peeps!

IMG_4699

I really don’t remember what Daddy was doing that was so funny, but I love this picture of the two of them! I wish I had a video ‘cause I can just hear that giggle coming out of my little girl!

Beautiful Good Friday

Good Friday ended up being a beautiful day! Kyle had the day off and we had a wonderful day as a family of 4! Kyle washed both vehicles and we got a lot of cleaning done in the house.

Once Adelyn got up from her nap we gave our double stroller a test “drive”! We went for a walk to the park (only 3 blocks from our house)!

IMG_4672

Adelyn was so excited to run & play at the park while Avery napped in his car seat. Since we had just had a big snowstorm the ground was pretty muddy and there were still piles of snow around. Which seemed funny when it was 60+ degrees!

IMG_4676

I think Adelyn went down the slide 74 times (not really, but it was a lot)! I have a feeling we’ll spend lots of time at the park this spring/summer!

IMG_4677

Adelyn loved the new stroller! She didn’t want to get out when we got back home!

IMG_4678

Daddy was able to convince her to get out of the stroller with a snowball…

IMG_4679

…and she knew just what to do with it! Throw it at Daddy! Ha!

Next up is a recap of our Easter weekend!

Happy Birthday Grampo!

My Grandpa, who we call Grampo (pronounced Gram-poo), came down on Friday March 22nd. We planned an evening with family to celebrate his 79th birthday! Grampo came early to have some extra time with us and meet Avery!

IMG_4655

Adelyn & Avery had to wear their Hawkeye attire to cheer on our team in the NIT tournament!

IMG_4654IMG_4657

My parents, Mindi & Preston, and my Grandma all came over to celebrate Grampo’s birthday! Mom & Mindi both made a pot of soup for supper. I made Grampo’s birthday cake. I found the Portillo’s chocolate cake recipe and it was a hit, so moist & delicious!

IMG_4659

Adelyn was Auntie M’s buddy the whole night!

IMG_4662

We had a nice afternoon/evening with family celebrating my Grampo!

Avery: 2 weeks

I’m still catching up {I have a feeling this how I it will always be with 2 kiddos now!} Last I left off was Avery’s 1 week post.

Avery’s 2nd week of life was rough on Kyle & I. We both got nasty head colds. Thankfully Avery transitioned into some sort of schedule during that week too! He started to go to bed around 8pm and sleeps till midnight/1am and then will be up at around 4-5am. So only up about 2 times/night.

Kyle also only had to work 2 days this week. It was spring break at the college where we work! The timing worked out great with Avery’s arrival! We loved having Daddy home! Adelyn still loves to hold her baby brother. Anytime she holds him, she looks up at us and says “cheese”, she knows it’s a kodak moment, sweet girl!

IMG_0777

On Tuesday, March 19th Avery’s umbilical cord fell off!

IMG_0779

On Wednesday March 20th we had Avery’s 2 week appointment. I had some questions for the Doctor since Avery spits up so much and cries through some feedings, I wasn’t sure if he was getting enough. Well he weighed in at 10lbs, 9oz, almost 1lb above his birth weight! Usually by two weeks they just hope babies are to their birth weight! Needless to say, he’s a healthy growing boy {and my question for the doctor was quickly answered!}.

IMG_0787IMG_0788

On Thursday March 21st our friends and neighbors, Mike & Mindy stopped over to meet Avery! Thursday evening was my first time with both kiddos by myself. Kyle had a meeting that evening for work. I felt quite successful! I made supper for Adelyn & I. Avery did wake up to eat while we were eating, but I was able to feed him while Adelyn finished her supper. Then we got ready for bed, all before Daddy got home!

IMG_4645

And we had a few more visitors that week too. My friend Sarah, and her little guy, Zane, stopped over on Friday. Zane & Adelyn are only 7 week apart, so they had a fun little play date and us Mom’s had a good time catching up!

IMG_4649

Friday afternoon/evening we also had lots of visitors. We hosted a birthday party for my Grampo, but I’ll do a separate post about that.

Saturday my good friend, Sara, and her little girl Emma stopped over to meet Avery. Emma just turned 4 and she is the oldest of 3 girls! Sara is a wonderful Mommy and such a supportive friend!

IMG_4663

More updates to come! And in case you missed them, make sure to scroll down to see Avery’s newborn pictures!
